"Kantha is a running stitch, traditionally used to join layers of old dares to make quilts. Now that stitch has evolved into an embroidery style and is done on Saris, dupattas, yardage and bed sheets. Geometric, floral and figurative designs are surrounded by rows of intricate borders in a dam stitch which recreates the woven border. Finally the background is filled with minute white quilling stitches encircling the design."
