"Paithani is called maha-vastra in Maharashtra. Paithani sarees were traditionally woven thick silk with real zari. The weaving is similar to tapestry weaving. Common motifs are traditional vines, flowers, shapes of fruit and stylised forms of birds. The sari is often known by the motif that dominates the border or pallav."
