Rabari Embroidery

Rabari embroidery by the Rabari shepherd tribes in Gujarat is very impressive against a dark background, usually maroon with softer shades worked to accentuate the stitching. The usual motifs are encased within a circle or an octagonal arrangement of mirror bootis. This impromptu combination of coloured threads and mirrors makes this rustic work fascinating. Bead and butti-work tobacco pouches, festival trousers, jackets, embroidered blouses and torans are embroidered with wool or thick cotton thread on cotton and woolen material using Rabari embroidery.
